Those of you who read the last edition
of our newsletter may remember us mentioning our new Therapeutic
Coaching® Program starting January 25th, 2002. Here are some of
the details about our program.
The Therapeutic Coaching®
Program is a year-long, 350 hour intensive, integrative certification
Program. There are 250 class hours, and approximately 100 hours
of additional work, which includes prep, study, assignments
and internship. Unlike many other coaching programs, this unique
program will offer a thorough, hands-on learning environment
where you can experience and practice coaching skills as you
learn them. You will be able to watch elegant demonstrations
of the material being taught as well as being able to receive
one-on-one feedback from the instructors to enhance your learning
process.
Our philosophy is
grounded in the belief that change (no matter the context) can
be easy, quick, fun, and long lasting! The length of time a
problem/obstacle has existed for someone is in no way an indication
of how long it takes to get rid of it. We also believe that
an effective, successful coaching experience will provide the
client assistance and guidance and be able to work with the
full continuum of experience they (whether an individual, group
or organization) bring with them.
When we speak of “therapeutic”
in this context we are not talking about long-term psychotherapy
or the kind of therapy needed by someone with a severe mental/emotional
disorder. The “therapeutic” process we are describing is the
one that just about every individual has needed at some point
in their life. It’s pretty safe to say, that a large number
of people in this world have experienced fear, apprehension,
lack of confidence that they can do something, doubt, confusion
about what to do next, unwanted emotions, or any other ordinary,
everyday problems. Although these kinds of problems may not
have landed them in long-term therapy (or perhaps they have),
they certainly may have created enough pain or obstacles to
impede them from moving forward or having what they want in
life. Any time we intervene with someone in the hopes of assisting
them in creating a change or attaining something they don’t
have or want more of, we are participating in a “therapeutic”
process. When we assist others through a process of motivating,
encouraging, supporting, reflecting, or guiding, we are participating
in a “therapeutic” process. Any time we are facilitating any
kind of human transformation we are involved in a “therapeutic”
process.
One of the greatest
complaints and concerns we hear from Personal/Professional Coaches
is that they sometimes find themselves stuck or reaching a stalemate
with a client because they don’t know where to go next or what
intervention to do. This has often been a common complaint by
many therapists as well. Usually what occurs at the point is
that either the client ends the relationship or the Coach or
Therapist makes a referral. One of the missing key components
is that the Coach or Therapist may not understand the true structure
of behavior, the impact of language and how this knowledge is
a critical tool in any human interaction.
For these and many
other reasons we have created the Therapeutic Coaching® Program.
We want our students to be well equipped to use the interventions
we teach them, as well as be able to mix and match other modalities
and interventions to better serve their clientele.
