Taking
the Plunge

So you're starting a business. Are
you feeling completely confident in your pursuits? Do you know
exactly how you will go about planning the course of your business
and your life? Are you prepared physically, emotionally, and even
spiritually? Most of us would say "no" or "I'm not sure" to at
least one of these questions. Feeling overwhelmed is a common
emotion among entrepreneurs.
Our names are Laura
Fairweather and Lorelee Bergmark. We are the board of directors,
officers, receptionists, janitors, and all other staff of Unlimited
Vision Inc. (talk about overwhelmed). About a year ago, we "took
the plunge" and started our own business. Our nerves were tense
and our stomachs felt twisted as we faced one of the biggest
decisions of our lives. Could we possibly survive without the
drone lifestyle of getting up every morning, going to work,
coming home from work, having supper, walking the dogs, doing
laundry, and then going to bed hoping to get enough sleep to
tackle the next day exactly the same way? There were positives
to this lifestyle: a steady paycheck, insurance, other benefits,
and of course, structure. But where was the passion? Where were
the challenges and the rewards that could follow? We wanted
something more — more freedom to make our own choices and decisions
in our lives. But how could we be sure we weren't making a hasty
decision?
One day, by coincidence,
we met Pat and Mirtha from The Meta Institute. They were the
catalyst that changed our clouds of uncertainty into clear visions.
With their guidance, we went through the process of writing
our business plan. They helped us crunch numbers, set goals,
and find answers to a bazillion questions about starting our
business.
Then, the experience
became more unique as we examined a level below the business
surface. Together, we walked through a series of personal discovery
exercises. We highlighted our strengths and determined how to
use them to our benefit. We also analyzed our weaknesses and
learned how to work with them if we could not resolve them.
After that process, we went even deeper and uncovered our personal
blocks. We realized that these blocks were the true demons that
would inhibit us from being successful in our business. We discussed
ways to get beyond those blocks, so our true potential could
shine through. It was enlightening to see how understanding
ourselves could help us master not only our business, but also
many other aspects of our lives.
The Meta Institute
gave us the tools and courage to go ahead and start our new
business. Without their support, we would have struggled with
questions like where do we start and how can we make this happen
without drowning in a heap of responsibility. With their help,
we were able to find the right balance physically, mentally,
emotionally, and spiritually. This balance allowed us to "take
the plunge" and land safely on our feet. Thank you Pat and Mirtha!
