The Healing Power of Reiki
by Mirtha Solis

Sometimes no matter how long I’ve practice a certain modality or how many amazing things I’ve witnessed others experience, I am still left in awe when I experience healing in my own life. Here are two brief stories of how Reiki most recently impacted my life on a very personal level.

We have a 20 month old son. As most 20 month old toddlers, he is curious and adventurous. He has reached the stage of climbing and wanting to jump from things. Even though this is an important developmental stage for children, it is an unnerving one for parents. On one of those spring-like February days, I was out with Zach and his wagon and we were removing Christmas lights from our fence. He was very diligent about assisting in this process as well as doing his own thing. We had filled up his wagon with those rope-like Christmas lights and were almost ready to come inside.

I had seen Zach’s attempt to want to climb into the wagon on top of the pile of lights. I was less than 2 ft. from him and I had warned him to stay away. I began to move towards him to make sure he didn’t go ahead and climb anyway. In the rapid speed of a child on a mission, he climbed on top of the lights, went to sit on the edge, and lost his balance. Because he was falling backwards, he went to compensate and fell side-ways, face and head first on to the concrete. It all happened so fast that I felt like I was in slow motion, running thru molasses. If you’re a parent, you may know what I’m talking about. Before I could move the foot-and-a-half between us, his head had already hit the concrete at full force. A trillion thoughts crossed my mind as I saw his little head reverberate on the sidewalk. When I finally reached him (probably the longest second of my life had transpired), I picked him up in one quick swoop. Fortunately, he was conscious and holding his breath before the huge scream. My first reaction was to grab his forehead and all I could think was, “OH MY GOD, REIKI, REIKI, REIKI....OH MY GOD, REIKI, REIKI, REIKI. I called for help and ran in the house. At this point I didn’t know if there was blood, concussion, cracked scull or what. When I removed my hand to examine the injury, we were all amazed. There was barely a tiny red mark by his hairline and no swelling to be seen. Not even conscious yet of what had occurred, we immediately attempted to apply ice and called the doctor. Like most children, Zach was not wanting the ice. He had calmed down and proceeded to go about his play. The doctor instructed us to watch him carefully for the next 6 hours. Even as the hours passed and he seemed totally his usual self, I was still in shock.

It wasn’t till the next day that I had the full realization that Zach had no swelling, no bump and no bruise. The only evidence of his fall was a tiny scrap on his nose & forehead. Silly me, I was baffled. How did this happen? I hadn’t even remembered I had done Reiki on him. As the shock wore off and I got the warm fuzzies, I realized how grateful I am to the universe for having Reiki as a healing tool in my life!

The other amazing manifestation of healing power of Reiki came March 13th. Those of you that know us may have met our dear and crazy dog, Sam. She’s a 80+ pound Labrador Retriever that has the energy and exuberance of 12 dogs put together. Sam does nothing in moderation and she is in constant motion. She has the build and stamina of a champion dog (having been breed to compete and perform). Last week she suffered a very bad seizure that lasted over 10 minutes. In the process of this seizure she feel down our back steps on to a very icy sidewalk. When were finally able to restrain her, Pat immediately started doing Reiki on her. She was able to calm down fairly quickly. We then noticed that she could not walk, her hind quarters had been injured somehow in the fall off the steps or in the sliding around the ice. Our Vet had asked us to bring her in immediately so that he could x-ray her leg. Since dogs have to be put under anesthesia to be x-rayed, we had to leave Sam overnight at the Vet. We were very concerned about her being alone through the night, but knew she needed to be x-rayed.

The next day when we picked Sam up, she was not the same dog. She was still doppy from the anesthesia and was barely moving, limping on 3 legs. The vet said there were no broken bones, but there could be some tendon or ligament tare or sprain. He said it would take weeks before she could walk normally. If in a few weeks she wasn’t better, they would have to do surgery to see what kind of damage there was.

When Sam was home and settled in, I took a few minutes to do Reiki on the injured area and to reassure her that she would be fine. Looking into her sagging eyes, I knew she understood me. Later that day when the anesthesia had worn off, Sam started to show an interest in moving around the house. Her leg still seemed tender and she was unable to put any weight on it. I did Reiki on her one other time that day. By the next day, once again the miracle of Reiki had occurred. Sam seemed herself again and her leg appeared to be in excellent shape. I watched her jump up to look out the window and watched her run out of her doggie door and down the stairs to bark at someone on the street.

Once again, I was left in total awe. In the course of a few weeks I had witnessed the impact of this healing energy on 2 of my greatest treasures in life. When I think about it from the perspective of what I know and teach people and how I have seen it impact others, it makes perfect sense. Yet, I was pleasantly surprised and delighted to have it happen to those closest to me. These experiences were also a testament to the openness and purity of children and animals to be able to manifest healing almost instantaneously. Again, I thank the universe for the great gift of this healing energy—Reiki.

Pay close attention, you never know where those little miracles may show up!!!!
